Understanding a Woman's Sexual Responsiveness

Important Terms

Libido
A woman's desire or interest in having a sexual experience. Multiple complex factors contribute to (or reduce) the immediacy or intensity or interest and desire.

Arousal
The physical response of a woman's sexual anatomy to odors, thoughts, visual images, kissing, rubbing, touching, and direct genital stimulation. The arousal response includes vaginal lubrication and clitoral erection - clitoral rigidity, enlargement, and increased sensitivity. Orgasm can only be achieved from a maximally aroused clitoris.

Orgasm (climax)
A woman's ultimate pleasurable experience - where the pelvic muscles contract and relax in rhythmic waves or spasms. An Orgasm can only be achieved with the stimulation, either directly or with intercourse, of the maximally sensitive and aroused clitoris.
